How to Remove Steering Wheel Controls

Chevrolet Tahoe Back Light Repair 1.1) Gently pry around edge of steering wheel controls to release.
Chevrolet Tahoe DIY Radio Repair 2.1) Gently remove control from steering wheel.
Do It Yourself Chevrolet Light Repair 3.1) Wires are short, access back of control.
3.1) Squeeze trigger on side of connector into connector to release and remove control from steering wheel.
How to Fix Chevrolet Tahoe Back Light 4.1) With control removed, trigger on side of connector is located at mid connector.

Needed Tools

  • Replacement lamps
  • Solder
  • Wire cutter
  • Small flat head screwdriver
  • Pick tool
  • Tweezers
  • Soldering pencil, this is not a soldering gun

Lamps are 12 volt, available at Radio Shack and mcminone.com part #25-1370.
Two lamps per control.

Do It Yourself Repair Car Audio 1.1) Base of control has four locks, two on each side of control.
How To Fix It Yourself 2.1) With pick tool, lift side of black frame and pry white base from frame at each lock.
Do It Yourself Repair Chevrolet Tahoe 3.1) White base will release.
You Can Repair it Yourself 4.1) Remove white base and set to side.
How to Fix it Yourself 5.1) Grasp connector pins on end of Printed Circuit Board (PCB).
Fix and Repair Back Lights 6.1) Lift PCB from base.
How to Repair Car Stereo 7.1) Set base to side.
Chevrolet Tahoe Do It Yourself Repair 8.1) Base has four red plungers. If plunger falls from base, install before assembly. Plunger fit into small round opening on base.
How to Fix it Yourself 9.1) Removed PCB with lamps.
Fix It Car Radio Repair 10.1) Green switch array on top of PCB is held into place with four tabs that pass through openings in PCB.
10.2) Lift edges of switch to release tabs from PCB.
Chevy Tahoe Light Repair 11.1) Remove switch array and place to side, keep switch array clean, away from dust, dirt and moisture.
How to Do It Yourself Repair 12.1) With solder iron, heat PCB at side of lamp base assembly on PCB to release edge of lamp.
How to Repair It Yourself 13.1) Lift edge of lamp base assembly from PCB.
Do It Yourself Repair It 14.1) Heat opposite side of lamp base.
How to Fix it Yourself 15.1) Remove lamp, repeat steps * for second lamp.
Do It Yourself Fix it! 16.1) With pick tool, unwrap lamp leg from lamp base.
How to Fix it Yourself 17.1) Unwrap second lamp leg from lamp base.
How to Fix Lights for Chevrolet 18.1) Remove lamp from lamp base.
Fix it Yourself Chevrolet Tahoe 19.1) Gently remove lamp cover from lamp.
Fix It Yourself Back Lite Repair 20.1) Replacement lamp.
Lite Bulb Repair DIY 21.1) Moisten and squeeze lamp cover.
Light Bulb Repair DIY 22.1) Slide lamp cover onto lamp, be sure there is no air bubble in end of lamp for best fit.
Repair It Yourself 23.1) Push lamp down into lamp base.
Repair it Yourself Car Stereo 24.1) While holding lamp down in base, wrap lamp legs around base.
Fix it Yourself Chevrolet Control 25.1) Clip lamp legs to fit small slot on bottom of lamp base.
Fit It Car Stereo 26.1) Push lamp legs into slots on lamp base.
Fix it Yourself Chevy Tahoe Back Light 27.1) Solder lamp and base back onto PCB.
How to Fix Chevy Tahoe Back Lites

28.1) PCB and green switch array are "Keyed", both have notches at one end.

Chevy Tahoe Repair Steering Wheel Controls. 29.1) Push switch array into place, be sure all tabs fit through opening in PCB.
30.1) Be sure four red plungers are in place.
30.2) Place PCB into base, both are keyed and fit in one direction only.
How to Repair Tahoe Steering Wheel Controls 31.1) Push PCB down to fit in place.
How to Fix Chevy Tahoe Back Lites 32.1) Mate white base to key on main base.
How to Repair Steering Wheel Control Back lites 33.1) Align white base.
How to Repair Chevrolet Tahoe Back Lights 34.1) Push white base down to snap into place.

35.1) Install steering wheel control and check back lights.
