How to Remove Steering Wheel Controls |

1.1) Gently pry around edge of steering wheel controls to release. | ||

2.1) Gently remove control from steering wheel. | ||

3.1) Wires are short, access back of control. 3.1) Squeeze trigger on side of connector into connector to release and remove control from steering wheel. |

How to Repair Steering Wheel Controls |

Needed Tools
Lamps are 12 volt, available at Radio Shack and mcminone.com part #25-1370. |

1.1) Base of control has four locks, two on each side of control. | ||
![]() |
2.1) With pick tool, lift side of black frame and pry white base from frame at each lock. | ||
![]() |
3.1) White base will release. | ||
![]() |
4.1) Remove white base and set to side. | ||
![]() |
5.1) Grasp connector pins on end of Printed Circuit Board (PCB). | ||
![]() |
6.1) Lift PCB from base. | ||
![]() |
7.1) Set base to side. | ||
![]() |
8.1) Base has four red plungers. If plunger falls from base, install before assembly. Plunger fit into small round opening on base. | ||

9.1) Removed PCB with lamps. | ||
![]() |
10.1) Green switch array on top of PCB is held into place with four tabs that pass through openings in PCB. 10.2) Lift edges of switch to release tabs from PCB. |

11.1) Remove switch array and place to side, keep switch array clean, away from dust, dirt and moisture. | ||

12.1) With solder iron, heat PCB at side of lamp base assembly on PCB to release edge of lamp. | ||

13.1) Lift edge of lamp base assembly from PCB. | ||
![]() |
14.1) Heat opposite side of lamp base. | ||
![]() |
15.1) Remove lamp, repeat steps * for second lamp. | ||
![]() |
16.1) With pick tool, unwrap lamp leg from lamp base. | ||
![]() |
17.1) Unwrap second lamp leg from lamp base. | ||
![]() |
18.1) Remove lamp from lamp base. | ||
![]() |
19.1) Gently remove lamp cover from lamp. | ||
![]() |
20.1) Replacement lamp. | ||
![]() |
21.1) Moisten and squeeze lamp cover. | ||
![]() |
22.1) Slide lamp cover onto lamp, be sure there is no air bubble in end of lamp for best fit. | ||

23.1) Push lamp down into lamp base. | ||
![]() |
24.1) While holding lamp down in base, wrap lamp legs around base. | ||
![]() |
25.1) Clip lamp legs to fit small slot on bottom of lamp base. | ||

26.1) Push lamp legs into slots on lamp base. | ||
![]() |
27.1) Solder lamp and base back onto PCB. | ||
![]() |
28.1) PCB and green switch array are "Keyed", both have notches at one end. |
||

29.1) Push switch array into place, be sure all tabs fit through opening in PCB. | ||
![]() |
30.1) Be sure four red plungers are in place. 30.2) Place PCB into base, both are keyed and fit in one direction only. |

31.1) Push PCB down to fit in place. | ||

32.1) Mate white base to key on main base. | ||

33.1) Align white base. | ||

34.1) Push white base down to snap into place. | ||
